Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco started the game by completing five of his first six passes leading to a touchdown anda seven point Ravens lead. For Panthers fans it seemed all too easy. Little did we know it would not be nearly so easy for Flacco and the Ravens the rest of the afternoon. The Panthers secondary played a huge role in the win.Pro Football Focus summarizes the play of the secondary in their weekly insights:Snead caught only five of eleven targets as he was blanketed by James Bradberry. Flacco would only complete 17 more passes the entire game even in a game where they were trailing for most of it. One other note is that both sacks by the Panthers (Reid Michael Palardy Jersey , Jackson) were the result of blitzes by the secondary. So in summary the secondary registered two interceptions, two sacks, 23 tackles and held Flacco to a 56.8 quarterback rating. The secondary wasn’t the only ones playing well in pass coverage. The Panthers linebackers also contributed.I am very happy to be wrong in my prediction for this game. I didn’t imagine it would be the secondary that would essentially be the difference on the defensive side of the ball. This game gives me hope the defense is good enough to limit the explosive offenses we have remaining on the schedule. How about you? CHARLOTTE, N.C.
