On Monday morning, Doug Pederson officially confirmed Darby suffered a torn ACL during Philadelphia’s Sunday night loss to the Dallas Cowboys.The Eagles will likely soon place Darby on injured reserve to free up a roster spot. When that happens, Darby will become the fifth starter to end up on IR this season. With Darby out, the Eagles’ thin secondary becomes even thinner. Starting nickel cornerback Sidney Jones has been out since getting hurt in Week 6. There’s optimism he can return in Week 11 but we’ll have to see how he does in practice this week. As for Jalen Mills, who sat out in Week 10 Derek Barnett Jersey , Pederson said he’s still “a little further away” from returning. The Eagles’ active corners for their Week 11 game against an explosive Saints offense could include: Jones, Rasul Douglas, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Chandon Sullivan, and De’Vante Bausby. Douglas struggled against Dallas while starting in place of Mills. LeBlanc only joined the team last week after getting claimed on waivers. Sullivan is an undrafted rookie free agent who was called up from the practice squad last month. Bausby was recently re-signed to the practice squad and I’m assuming he’ll get the call up to the main roster. It remains to be seen how Darby’s injury impacts his long-term standing with the Eagles. Darby is set to be a free agent this offseason. The Eagles might’ve been counting on him to get a big deal in free agency so that they could potentially get a nice compensatory pick for him in 2020. Or maybe the Eagles had plans on re-signing him to a long-term deal. Perhaps Darby’s injury will allow him to return on a short-term prove-it contract. We’ll see.In the meantime, it’s hard not to feel like this just isn’t the Eagles’ year. Injuries have hardly been the only reason for struggles but they certainly haven’t helped.
